Five domains within four points of each other

DomainApproximate weightCompetencies
I. Finance20%8
II. Business Management19%3
III. Ethics, Law, Business Communication and International Business22%4
IV. Technology and Information Systems21%4
V. Leadership and Career Development18%3

The exam has 22 competencies, and the official weights are given only by domain. Finance spreads its 20% across eight competencies, while Business Management puts 19% on three. That does not tell you how many questions each competency gets, since competency-level weights are not published, but it does show that Finance is the widest domain by number of topics.

The biggest domain is not finance

Domain III, at about 22%, is the largest. It covers ethics and social responsibility in business and personal behavior, principles of business law (including forming, operating and dissolving different types of business), the basics of international business, and communication in business settings.

What the Finance domain contains

Eight competencies: money matters, banking and financial services, securities and investments, insurance operation, basic accounting, advanced accounting, financial analysis to solve problems, and probability calculations to forecast expected outcomes and manage risk.

Technology is 21 percent

Domain IV has four competencies: using computer systems, information technology terminology and principles, information management systems and applications, and confidentiality, security and data integrity. This is a full fifth of the exam, which is larger than the Business Management domain.

Leadership and career development

Domain V covers work-based learning and career development, interpersonal and employment skills in business settings, and leadership and community service through student organizations, including promoting a business education program (competency 022). It is the smallest domain at 18%.

How the 240 is reported

The result is a single total scaled score from 100 to 300, comparable across versions of the same exam. Because the five domains are so even, a score report that shows one domain far behind the others is a clear sign of where to study before a retake, but the domain counts are informational and no domain has its own passing score. Counts based on fewer than 10 questions are too small to interpret. The official pages do not say how many questions equal 240.

The appointment is 5 hours: 15 minutes for the tutorial and compliance agreement and 4 hours 45 minutes of testing, about 2 minutes 51 seconds per question on average (simple division). Retakes are allowed after 30 days, up to five attempts in total. Pearson also lists a separate "TX PACT: Business and Finance: Grades 6-12 (776)", so confirm which exam you need.
