This is the short, sourced answer to the questions candidates ask most about the NASAA Uniform Combined State Law Examination (Series 66): how many questions, how long it takes, what is on it and what you need to pass. Every number below comes from NASAA (exam administered by FINRA)'s own pages, linked at the end, and was checked on October 10, 2026.
Series 66 at a glance
- Questions: 110 questions (100 scored, 10 unscored)

The passing score
73 of the 100 scored questions correct (73%).
Scaled or raw, this is the official standard: plan to clear it with a margin, because exam forms differ in difficulty.
If you need to retake it
Set by NASAA, not FINRA: wait at least 30 days after a first or second failed attempt, and 180 days after a third (and each later) failed attempt within two years. From January 4, 2027 the wait after a third failed attempt drops to 60 days for exam windows opened from that date.
How to use this to plan your preparation
- Check your starting point by area. Take a mixed set of questions and look at your results per content area, not just the total. The real exam has 110 questions (100 scored, 10 unscored), so practise in blocks that match its pace.
- Work the weakest area first, in short sessions, and read every explanation, including the questions you got right.
- Finish with full timed practice that matches the official time (150 minutes), so the length of the exam is not a surprise on test day.
The Series 66 corequisite listed by FINRA is the SIE plus the Series 7 top-off. FINRA delivers the exam, but the retake waiting periods are NASAA's own rule (FINRA retake rules do not apply).
